Looking to ‘Worship’

Christians can look at this and immediately focus on the particular songs that are used, or whether or not there is a band or an organ…! Worship, however, is of course far wider than our musical preference – and that is all it is. We try to encourage people not to make a theology out of what is, in essence, their preferred musical style. After all, worship is for God, not us…

That said, music is important. For many it has been the trigger to enable people to encounter God, or to sense His presence, and that’s great. Such precious occasions should be eagerly desired by each of us, but we believe we should worship God with our whole lives – offering all that we are to Him, not just the ‘music bit’. Does my whole life seek to honour God…? Am I worshipping God through my lifestyle…?

The most powerful way to understand this area of Church life is to personalise it because this area, as in all five areas, can also be stated as a goal for every Christian. These goals express what God wants each of us to do with our lives. Try to personalise this goal below for yourself, then offer this prayerfully to God.

God wants me to be a MAGNIFIER of his name.
Thought we should keep the alliteration going…! Psalm 34:3 says, "O magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt his name together" (NASB). We are called to worship God. There is an inborn urge to worship in every human being. If we don’t worship God, we will find a replacement - job, family, money, a sport, or even ourselves. That’s why the very first commandment says, “You shall have no other god’s before me.
