Looking to ‘Serve’

This isn’t just the business of Andrew Murray (the Tennis player). In fact, in Church, you could say it is a whole new ball game. The Church is the largest Voluntary organisation in the world. When we look at what “the Church should do…” (and this could be at either a local or wider level) we need to realise that nothing will happen unless ‘we’ seek to serve. Jesus gave us an example we should follow (John 13) and we understand that this highlights the priority of serving others. At Acland Road there is somewhere for everyone to be involved in something – whether that be playing an instrument, making banners, helping kids, or something more behind the scenes like folding the welcome sheets, visiting those who can’t get out, creating posters, cleaning the toilets, giving hospitality, or writing articles for the local press…

Of course, if you are new to us we would not expect this. Take your time. Make some friends, and see if you feel at home with us… but if you want to help with the washing up no-one will stop you…!

The most powerful way to understand this area of Church life is to personalise it because this area, as in all five areas, can also be stated as a goal for every Christian. These goals express what God wants each of us to do with our lives. Try to personalise this goal below for yourself, then offer this prayerfully to God.

God wants me to be a MINISTER of his grace.
There is a responsibility for every Christian to serve. God expects us to use the gifts, talents, and opportunities he gives us to benefit others, but it is ‘how’ we serve that matters. Is this willingly or grudgingly…? 1 Peter 4:10 says, “Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.” God intends for every believer to have a ministry. Church is for participators, not spectators. Have you discovered your gifts…? If you would like to discuss this further, call the Pastor on 267171.

For a list of the sorts of opportunities available, click here, complete the sheet where applicable, then pass on to one of the Leadership Team. Thank you.
