Summary of activity during 2009.

Conclusion:
The Community Action Group is now an established part of the work of the DCC, and there is a small core of regular group members. It is hoped that one or two more people might join in on a regular basis. Our projects are interesting. Anyone is welcome to attend any monthly meeting, to listen in and participate.
December 2009
No meeting was held.
November
The APS portfolio had been submitted and we had received conditional approval. The Food Bank scheme, set up by the Baptist Church, was discussed and the CAG can refer needy people. Ian had delivered the HUB collection of donated items. Eve and Glenda had visited the Women's Refuge.
October
Jon reported that the event held by Dorset Community Action had been very positive and there was good interaction with other cultures and nationalities. DFiD - Eve and Glenda had given a short talk at the Senior Citizens service and handed out leaflets. Glenda reported that she would be sending her portfolio off for the application to APS and a lot of work had gone in to assembling this. submission. Items had been delivered to the Hub for the Harvest Festival and Tracey was now volunteering on Wednesdays in place of Eve. Matthew was to put up the notice about the Community Action Group on the wall to try and keep up interest in the work they do.
September
DFiD - It was confirmed that we would keep the freephone mobile number to ensure the scheme remained accessible. The quotation for the new leaflets was approved and Eve and Glenda were to distribute them to all doctors surgeries, care homes, residential homes etc. in the area. Glenda was still working on the APS (Approved Provider Standard). With regard to migrant workers, the South Dorset Multi Cultural Network were arranging a One World Festival on 4th October and Jon would try and get a team together from the Church for the Bangladeshi game Kabadi. Eve, having undergone training, may be befriending a woman in Maiden Newton soon.
August
No meeting held.
July
A Hub, Grub and Kit collection was held and Eve reported that the Hub had had quite considerable success in re-housing people. Re. DFiD, Glenda reported that the training day had gone well and three people had attended and three more waiting to be trained. Eve had done a feedback at the Service the next morning. New leaflets might be done after our application for APS in the Autumn.
June
With regard to the Hub, Eve reported that the management had been taken over by the Bournemouth Churches Housing Association. With regard to migrant workers, Jon was to inform any local Philippino Christians that a service at our Church would be approved if they wished to hold one. The Befriending scheme was moving ahead and it was decided to promote the scheme more within the Church membership.
May
Eve reported that two more members of the Church had joined the Hub as volunteers and that meant four members were actively involved with the homeless. Glenda reported that we had referrals coming in for DFiD and a discussion was had about promoting the scheme amongst other churches. With regard to the Women's Refuge it was decide to have a summer donation of baby kit, clothing and equipment. Matt and Glenda are to visit the soup kitchen (Soul Food in Weymouth) and report back.
April
Jon had attended an Executive meeting of the SW Dorset Multi Cultural Network and the Elders of the Church had agreed that there should be a welcome sign outside the Church in several languages. With regard to DFiD Glenda was setting up another training day and the recruitment of volunteers was discussed. Eve reported that the Hub was short of volunteers and this would be noted in the Welcome sheet to encourage members.
March
A collection had been made on Sunday 1st March for the Hub (day centre for the homeless) and Grace Weir had prepared a card to be delivered with it. Jon was in contact with the South West Dorset Multi Cultural network and said he would be prepared to become a member. The WDDC had given a grant of £250 for the Befriending scheme and the leaflets about the scheme had already been taken up at various places. Eve was to give a three minute talk at the AGM on 19th March about the Community Action Group
February
The 11th Meeting of CAG was held on 15th February, when the focus of the Meeting was prayer, and afterwards a discussion about informing and promoting our work and activities to Church members. Using Eve’s summary of the work during the groups first year, it was decided to plan a brief presentation at a service (by Jon), a piece in the next Honeycomb (by Eve) and a notice board (by Glenda).
January 2009
Eve circulated these documents to all members and some amendments were made. The CAG held its 10th Meeting on Sunday 11th January (meeting are always held after an evening service), with 5 present. Glenda reported that DFID now had a free phone number and a bank account. The Constitution and other documents were approved and signed. The next training day not to be fixed until we had more volunteers. The next HUB collection was set for 1st March, and each item would be labelled “Donated by all of us at Dorchester Community Church”, and would be accompanied by a card. Glenda had organised donated toiletries to be given to the Women’s Refuge, and this would be done annually. Jon Nugent is to offer the Church as a venue for Migrant Workers support.
