December 2008
Alison and Glenda got the quotations for the printing of the DFID Leaflets. Glenda drew up a Constitution for Dorchester Friend in Deed (DFID) which will be needed for grant applications, and a Volunteer Befrienders Policy, and adapted a Health and Safety Policy and Guidance, to assist accreditation, and she circulated them to Group members at the end of the month.

November
9th CAG Meeting held on 9th November when the leaflet was passed, and distribution discussed. Glenda now had a mobile phone for the project, and she had a Training Pack and Powerpoint Display ready for the second Training Session, and the scheme was working towards APS and accreditation. Alison Corfield was to get quotations for the printing of the leaflet, and the cost was agreed. On Saturday 22nd November the Thursday morning Life Group hosted a Brunch for the Homeless at the Church, and there was another HUB Grub and Kit Collection on Sunday 30th November. A second POPPS course was underway during the month.

October
The DFID Training Day took place on 4th October, and Glenda reported back to the 8th CAG Meeting held the next day. She had produced a very comprehensive manual for the event which had gone well. Jon was keen to have a good leaflet to promote the service. Funding assistance for the scheme was discussed and applications to be made. Glenda was to design a leaflet for DFID.

September
On 7th Marianne Crabbe from Faithworks came to give a Presentation to the two Sunday morning services about Befriending. Glenda was active in various ways, and also in recruiting people to attend the first Training Session, to be conducted by Faithworks, at Church.

August
The 7th CAG meeting on 17th August was well attended, with regular members being Eve, Jon, Glenda, Roger and Ali, Alison Corfield, Matt Cook, and Robin and Julie Attwater. It was agreed to let POPPS run another course in November. It was agreed that the Befriending Scheme be called “Dorchester Friends in Deed” (DFID), and things were really moving along, with promotion discussed, and date for a Training Day fixed. Jon was also keen to hold a social event for Migrant Workers in the area.

July
Hub Grub and Kit day was held for the second time and was well supported. A 6th CAG meeting, with around 7 attending, decided to move forward with the Befriending Scheme, and Glenda Goddard agreed to be the Co-Coordinator for a year, with the first training course to be held in October. Glenda produced an excellent Information sheet on Befriending in the Community.

June
Roger obtained information on other Churches social action initiatives, to avoid duplication. A 5th CAG meeting discussed the Befriending scheme. Jon and Glenda were to present the scheme to the Church leadership. Glenda said she would find out about the key social goals of the Council from a meeting with Sue Bickle.

May
The first HUB Grub and Kit Sunday collection in Church on 4th May when 222 items were generously donated, and all items delivered that week to the HUB.

A 4th meeting was held on 18th May when the report from the meeting with Focus and Faithworks was discussed. Glenda Goddard and Jon were to present a report on the Befriending scheme to the next meeting when a decision was to be taken.

April
The 3rd meeting was held on 13th April when the Befriending Proposal was debated, and John said there was to be a meeting with Focus – an established Christian based befriending service in Poole, and identified key points to be raised. Unmet needs in the community were discussed. Decision to call the group the ‘Community Action Group’ in future. On 26th April, Eve attended a Social Action Conference in Bracknell. The first POPPS course held at the Church on 29th April, with 3 more to come in May.

March
A 2nd meeting was held on 9th March, when Eve Bonham Cozens agreed to facilitate the group. It was decided to collect items every two months for the HUB and its users. It was agreed that POPPS would be invited to use our Church and kitchen. John Nugent suggested a Befriending scheme, and was asked to provide more information with a proposal and action plan, which he then did.

January 2008
Following a commitment taken at the autumn Church Members’ meeting, Roger called a meeting on 27th January to consider creating a Social Action Group, when interested Church members came, and specific aims were discussed.
